[RL - Phone log! w/Shinichi]
((Follows this.))
Ran had been sitting on her bed while she browsed the community, laptop on her lap with her injured knee elevated on a couple of pillows. After the conversation on Hakuba's journal, however, she set the machine to one side with a huff, brows drawn together in an irritated frown. Honestly, what did Shinichi think he was doing? He hadn't called for ages, and then all of the sudden he just decided to show up and start stalking her online journal? How did he even know she had gotten one, anyway?
Conan-kun probably told him, the karateka grumbled to herself, carefully hobbling to the living room to get her cell phone out of her school bag. Sometimes she swore Shinichi talked more to Conan than he did to her. It was a little frustrating.
And then when he did decide to call her, it was to warn her against talking to Hakuba's mother. Oh, he'd better have a good explanation, all right.

Wincing slightly he waited for her to pick up and held his bowtie inplace so his real voice would float through the phone.

"Hi," she greeted, one hand propped on her hip. Her flat tone more than conveyed her mood at the moment.

At least she wounded willing to hear him out, irritated as she might be.

"I'm in hiding, Ran." He finally decided, he may as well give her some of the truth. "The case I'm working on got dangerous, and I got a little jumpy when you were talking to Hakuba-kun's mother, she looks like someone deeply involved in the case I'm on.
"Although, after talking with her I realized it wasn't her."
no subject
She'd had her suspicions for a while now -- the length of the mysterious case, the way Shinichi couldn't seem to find any leads, how he insisted that no one get involved, the way he kept coming and going, even the fact that Mr. Arrogant Detective suddenly didn't want his name associated with the cases he solved -- they all pointed towards him being in some kind of danger. Some kind of serious danger.
She just hadn't wanted to believe it.
"H-how dangerous?" Ran finally stammered, all anger forgotten. She was clutching the phone with both hands now, the casing almost creaking under her fingers. "And what do you mean, looks like? She isn't related to the case, is she?"
no subject
"Hakuba's mother is not involved, I'm sure of that. But, I am investigating the family just to be sure. So... please be careful what you say around her, okay? I-I couldn't live with myself if you got wrapped up in this."
no subject
The room suddenly felt very cold.
"I... I will," Ran replied. If Shinichi was sure that Hakuba's mother wasn't involved, then she'd trust him on that. Besides, if she stopped talking to her all of a sudden, it would seem suspicious. And if the wrong people noticed...
"Shinichi," Ran suddenly blurted out, "you have help, don't you?" Please let him have help. "If the case is that dangerous, there has to be someone higher up who can do something. Megure-keibu, or the NPA, or someone."
She'd always assumed that Megure-keibu had been helping Shinichi on his case, but now she wasn't so sure. And if her best friend was up against a bunch of murderers that he hadn't been able to catch for -- how many months had he been chasing them now? Since that day in Tropical Land? It was too long -- with no one to help him, with no one to protect him... She couldn't stand that. She just couldn't.

Still, despite her light tone, she found herself having to sit down on the couch -- and not just because of her injured leg. Everything seemed different now. Someone who had been after Shinichi, even if they thought he was dead, would probably be looking at the people who knew him... And how many times had she talked to him on the phone now, in public? How often had he been mentioned at school? Sonoko knew she talked to him a lot, and Kazuha-chan, and--
"Does Hattori-kun know?" she asked. "Does Conan-kun?" She doubted that Shinichi had actually told Conan any details, but the young boy did talk to Shinichi a lot...
no subject
"Hattori is actually helping me on the case, so yeah.. he knows. As for Conan... he probably does but I haven't told him anything."
no subject
"I don't think Conan-kun would say anything he shouldn't, but I'll keep an eye on him just in case," she said, voice more steady this time. "Sonoko-chan too."
She'd have to be more careful about when she mentioned Shinichi's name in public, too. Like that time when she and Sonoko had found Subaru-san in Shinichi's house--
Gasping, Ran sat bolt upright, grip tightening around the phone again. "Shinichi, what about Subaru-san?" she demanded. "I-I had a strange feeling about him, so I tried to convince him that you weren't a detective, but I'm not sure if he believed me."
((*still personally thinks that Subaru is Akai, but hey* >_>))

"Ran, Please, stay as far away from him as possible. Also, if you do anything to change what you do in a day, this includes talking to Conan, or Sonoko about me, they could notice and will investigate. So please continue on as though this phone call never happened." He checked his watch closed his eyes as he realized how late it was getting.
"Well Listen, I've got to go, I have another lead on a case. I'll have to call you back some other time." Normally, he'd just say 'Ja' and hang up, but he needed know her answer.
((I did to for awhile but then Gosho confirmed in an interview that he was dead and wasn't coming back D: 'he nothing more to offer to the plot' or something.. >> ...... *mourns* D: ))

((What really. D: Noooooo. MAYBE HE'S JUST TRYING TO THROW US OFF THE TRAIL.
Because otherwise I have no idea who Subaru is.))no subject
Pushing away his own emotions for the situation, he made his way back home and to the little mat that he used as a bed.
((it wouldn't be unlike him to do something like though >>;
XD; I'm interested in learning more about him. other then Vermouth (who I'm about to app D: ) and Chianti he's the only black org member I like >>; ))no subject
I'll do everything I can to help him, no matter what, she swore silently to herself. Shinichi would come home alive, no matter how tough the case. He had to. There was no way he could die before she told him...
She was startled out of her thoughts by the door opening. Ran looked up in surprise as Conan entered. "Conan-kun, what were you doing outside so late?"
((Ha, true.
I think everyone wants to know more about Vermouth.))no subject
"went over to Agasa's earlier..." he lied expertly. "I-I guess I forgot to tell you.. huh?" Nevermind that he never told people when or where he was going.

Not that the boy had ever been particularly good at that, and she was too tired to argue with him. Plus she just didn't have the heart to ground him, although she knew she probably should. Especially now that she knew...
...he probably knows but I haven't told him anything.
"Ne, Conan-kun," Ran started slowly, then stopped. Even if Conan had figured it out, what could she say? Shinichi had said not to mention anything. And if she was wrong, she'd just give Conan something to worry about.
"...Never mind." Ran stood, a bit stiff on her injured leg, and went to put her cell phone back in her bag. Her expression was subdued. "Tell me next time, okay?"
no subject
"Hai... can I get you some ice?" He offered, pointing to her injured leg.

She sat down on her bed and sighed again, glancing at her laptop before reaching over to turn it off. She could reply to the comments later, after she'd had some time to sleep on all of this.
